What We Do
Youth Consultation at PSNI Training College
- Date: 26 June, 2011
Police Engagement with Young People
Young people from Short Strand and Shankill Bytes took part in a youth consultation held at the PSNI Training College, Belfast.
This was an opportunity for young people on a cross community basis, to discuss their views and experiences of policing, face to face with police officers. Many young people never have the opportunity to speak to a police officer, except in a negative way, such as when they are suspected of doing something wrong.
The evening was a great success with some very frank and open discussions taking place. Police officers and young people discussed attitudes & negative stereotyping on the part of both the police and young people, youth pressures and the consequence of certain actions. The evening was rounded of nicely with some hot food!
